Sarah and George’s wedding day marked my very first visit to the beautiful Davenport House in Shropshire — and what an absolute dream it was. Set against the grandeur of the historic house and its breathtaking grounds, their celebration brought together two wonderful people surrounded by their nearest and dearest in a truly stunning location. From heartfelt moments to joyful laughter, the day was filled with warmth, connection, and an atmosphere that made it impossible not to smile. A perfect setting for a wedding that felt as special as the couple themselves.

How did you guys meet?

We went to the same school for 5 years but weren’t properly introduced until 2 years after we’d both left that school! Sarah knew George’s brother who introduced us to each other at a Christmas party.

Tell me about yourselves, how do you like to spend your time?

A lot of friends say we act more like we’re in our forties rather than twenties! We love long walks in the countryside, early nights in bed watching films and catching up with friends over dinner. George loves a competitive round of golf, Sarah enjoys going the gym, then relaxing with a large glass of wine and a good book.

How did you choose Davenport House as your venue?

We both grew up on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border and we knew we wanted our wedding to be in that area. We saw a few venues but Davenport House was a clear winner for us. The setting is gorgeous with a view of rolling hills and countryside that stretches for miles. The venue is yours exclusively for 24 hours which includes the main house – a beautiful Grade 1 listed Georgian house – as well as a number of beautiful cottages in the grounds where guests can stay the night. Finally, the team were amazing and incredibly supportive during the pandemic when we had to change dates twice, they really went above and beyond.

Why did you choose to have a wedding film?

We wanted to capture the energy of the day, the memorable moments like the speeches but also the unscripted parts like our guests fully committing to the dance floor at the end of the night. When we came across Roo’s website we both knew that his style was exactly what we were looking for, Sarah had tears in her eyes watching videos of couples she didn’t even know.

What was your best decision during planning?

To have a videographer. We knew we wanted a video but we didn’t realise how much it mattered until after the wedding day was over. The day really does fly by so quickly and you want to relive the experience, the atmosphere and the energy, a video truly allows you to do that.

What are your favourite memories from the day?

That moment in church when we made our vows, seeing all our guests looking absolutely radiant, hearing the speeches and of course spending hours on the dancefloor!

What advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?

Take in every moment you can, set aside 10 minutes for you and your partner to be alone before the evening guests arrive so that you can take a step back and savour the experience.
